Hi Arty: This question, and the one about "samedi prochain", suggests that you expect French to correspond to English word for word. You need to get that idea out of your head. Basically, the reason the correct translation is "pres de l'hotel" is that this is the way it is said in French, nothing more complicated than that. As you continue with Fluenz French, you are going to continue to see phrases that have a translated meaning in English, but which do not correspond word for word.
