I speak 3 languages and I'm working on my 4th one (Italian). I have to tell you the sad truth (or awesome truth ,depends on how you look at it). You need to immerse yourself in the language as much as possible , because the more you do so , the more you will understand and the faster that language synchronization will occur.
I've only been studying Italian for 6 weeks, however I've already had a dream in Italian (massive breakthrough when you start dreaming in the target language). You need to "study" as many hours as you can daily. This doesn't mean just lessons, you need to SPEAK (so many people don't do this) and write and listen.
You should do at least 1 lesson daily, but you should try to go for 2 at least. The lessons in Fluenz are short enough that you can easily burn though one in 15 minutes, so two lessons shouldn't be so bad. You need to listen to AS MUCH SPANISH AS POSSIBLE through out the day. Listen to the radio, watch films in Spanish, etc.
You NEED to play the flashcard game so you can drill the words into your head., and you need to say all new vocabulary outloud several times through out the day.
Also , try to download TINY CARDS by Duolingo into your phone so you can pick up more vocabulary.
Picking up a new language is a matter of forcing the target language into your daily life DAILY and for as many hours as possible.. If you only do one lesson a day minus weekends, and you never listen or speak you will never learn anything. You need to SATURATE your life in the target language as much as posssible.
The LSI predicts that an English speaker will be fluent in Spanish after 650 hours of study. If you only do one lesson a day do the math and see how long that will take you to accomplish.
